Now in its 13th year, the Optimist International Junior Golf Championship (Manitoba Qualifier) has become one of the premiere events on our provincial golfing calendar. The 2010 championship, being contested on June 26th and June 27th at Larters at St. Andrews Golf and Country Club and The Meadows at East St. Paul Golf Course, is sure to be no exception.

Upwards of 140 boys and girls - in age groups 12-13, 14-15, 16-18 will compete in our event this year vying for the chance to represent Manitoba at the prestigious Optimist International Junior Golf Championships at the PGA National Resort & Spa in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, July 27th to August 1st, 2010.

Like all events of this caliber, fundraising is a major component of ensuring its success. The costs associated with the travel, accommodations, meals and golf course fees are forever on the rise. Over the years, the Manitoba tournament owes much to the corporate community and individuals, who have given generously in support of our young golfers. This year, the challenge of raising the funds necessary to send a team to the National and International events is even greater, as there will not be a charity golf tournament to provide funding for these tournaments in July.

With the ever-growing list of fundraising golf tournaments in Winnipeg, the Manitoba Optimist Junior Golf committee felt that too much pressure was being placed on the golfing community, so a decision was made to withdraw the event from the calendar. As such, we must now turn our attention solely toward the corporate community and individuals for direct support to make our efforts a success in developing the talents of our young golfers.

We are fortunate that many of you  recognize the value of supporting Canadian Youth. As such, we look forward to your involvement in helping the Manitoba Optimist Junior Golf Program continue to provide this challenging opportunity for the development  of our young golfers.
